A book on “Vulvo-vaginal Discharge: A guide for Public Health Midwives” authored by Dr. Prasanthi Ilankoon, Senior Lecturer, Dept. of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Sampatha Goonewardena, Consultant Community Physician, Professor in Community Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS), Dr. Rukshan Fernandopulle, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Senior Lecturer, FMS and Prof. Rasika Perera, Professor in Clinical Biochemistry, FMS, University of Sri Jayewardenepura was published in English, Sinhala and Tamil languages in 2020. The book was edited by Dr. L.A.W. Sirisena, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.

The book was a part of the educational intervention carried out for the PhD degree of Dr. Prasanthi Ilankoon and was conducted under the university research grant (ASP//06/ RE/MED/2016/53) received by Prof. Sampatha Goonewardena. The book covers important areas on abnormal vaginal discharge to enhance the knowledge and skills of the Public Health Midwives (PHMs), to counsel women with an abnormal vaginal discharge, decide on appropriate action and health education. There is a scarcity of books on important gynaecological symptoms and diseases written for PHMs especially in Sinhala or Tamil languages. Hence, the book will be useful for the PHMs, Primary Health Care Workers, Nursing Officers and even the general public. The book has been already distributed among PHMs in the Colombo Municipal Council and is planned to be distributed among other MOH areas in Colombo District through the Family Health Bureau, Sri Lanka.
