THE DEPARTMENT OF OPTOMETRY

The faculty commenced the Bachelor of Science Honours in Optometry Degree programme in 2022.

Mission

To provide the in-depth theoretical knowledge, core clinical skills and advanced professional training necessary to practice independently and successfully as an eyecare professional, or as an academic and/or a researcher.

Participation in Postgraduate Training Programmes

We participate in the B. Sc. Optometry undergraduate programme.

Teaching Activities

Lectures, Tutorials, Practicals and Clinicals are conducted by the academic staff members for the above degree programme.

Facilities

The Department of Optometry is located within the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. Two lecture halls, one Tutorial hall and laboratory units are available which will be shared with the other departments of Allied Health Sciences. We also work in collaboration with the Faculty of Applied Science and the Faculty of Medicine where Teaching/Learning facilities will be provided by the relevant faculty. The course in Optometry will also include practice in a variety of clinical settings within the public and the private sector and within the community.
