A series of workshops were organized by the Staff Development Committee of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, USJ aiming to improve teaching and research skills of academics of the faculty to face the ‘new normal’.
A workshop on ‘Introduction of personal and professional development programs for Allied Health Sciences undergraduates’ resourced by Prof. Madhawa Chandrathilake, Department of Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya was held on 24th May 2021 from 2.00 to 3.30 p.m. This was followed by workshops on ‘Effective online teaching strategies with active participation of students’ resourced by Prof. Asita Silva, Lone Star College, USA, held on 23rd June 2021 from 8.00 to 9.30 a.m. and ‘Identifying issues and possible solutions related to conducting online lectures/assessments’ resourced by Prof. R.G.N. Meegama, Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Applied Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, held on 6th July 2021 from 3.00 to 4.30 p.m.
Two other workshops were organized, one on ‘Presentation of video lessons for practical classes’, resourced by Prof. Chayanika Padumadasa, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Applied Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, held on 20th July 2021 from 3.00 to 4.30 p.m. and another on ‘Research development for early career researchers’, resourced by Dr. Rasika Jayasekara, Senior Lecturer in Nursing and Midwifery, University of South Australia held on 12th August 2021 from 4.00 to 5.30 p.m.
The series of workshops are still ongoing and are expected to further strengthen teaching and research activities of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences.
