Welcome ceremony for 2019/2020 batch of allied health students

The first official batch of students (2019/2020 intake) was enrolled to the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences in June 2021. The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences obtained faculty status in January 2019 and till then functioned as a Department in the Faculty of Medical Sciences. This time, the intake of students was doubled to provide more learning opportunities in the discipline of allied health sciences. Asa result, 50 students were enrolled to follow the B.Sc (Hon) Nursing and Midwifery degree, 54 students to follow the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) degree, and 50 students to follow the B.Sc.(Hons) Medical Laboratory Sciences degree.

The Orientation programme commenced on 21st June 2021 and the welcome ceremony held virtually on the same day marked the beginning of this program. Senior Professor D.M.S Fernando, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, welcomed the new entrants to the Faculty. Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage, the Vice Chancellor, also addressed the students and warmly welcomed them to the University of Sri Jayewardenepura community. Dr. M.K.D.L. Meegoda, Prof. M.D.J. Wijayabandara, Dr. G.U.S Wijesekara, and Dr. K. Akalanka who are Heads of departments of Nursing and Midwifery, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, and Basic Sciences respectively, introduced each discipline and extended a warm welcome to the new entrants. The rest of the activities of the orientation programme were also held online due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation from 21st June 2021 to 5th July 2021.
