Preconference workshop on Innovations and inventions from Bench to Shelf

Preconference workshop on ‘Innovations and inventions from bench to shelf ‘was held on 21st March 2023 from 9.00 am to 12.00 noon at the Seminar Room, Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ). The target audience of the workshop was undergraduates of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. The main objective of organizing this workshop was to promote enthusiasm towards innovations and inventions among undergraduate students and to make them aware on innovation strategies. Further, the workshop guided them to identify viable innovations and inventions, and essential steps to be followed during the process of innovations and inventions from bench to shelf.

The pre-conference workshop started with the lecture on “Reaching the summit: A journey from bench to shelf” by Prof. Sugandhika Suresh, Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medical Sciences, USJ. Then, Mr. Tishan Perera, Manager, University Business Cell (UBL), USJ talked on “Viable innovations”, while Mrs. Amali Indika Hettige, Manager, UBL, University of Moratuwa, talked on “Intellectual properties and innovations”. The talks were followed by an interactive session on searching for viable innovations and inventions, a hands on experience which was resourced by Mrs. Chathuri Liyanage, Mr. Tishan Perera, and Mrs. Amali Hettige. After that Mr. Thisara Watawana, Director, Boffin Institute of Data Science delivered a lecture on use of free software.

More than 50 students registered and participated at the workshop which was sponsored by, Boffin Institute of Data Science.
