A workshop on Laboratory Safety measures was conducted for technical officers and laboratory attendants of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences on 24th February 2022 at Saagra building, FAHS. The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Kamburapolage Sarath Ramyakumara who is a Biochemist at Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama. This workshop was the first intended for non-academic staff members of FAHS, and was organized by the SDC/FAHS.
The workshop was a very interactive session where participants were able to clarify a lot of issues faced during laboratory sessions. In his lecture, Mr. Sarath emphasized on the importance of safe laboratory practices concerning the usage of poisonous/carcinogenic chemicals, infectious materials, fire accidents, handling of compressed gas, and electrical accidents. He also encouraged all the participants to apply the knowledge gained during the workshop in actual practice. Non-academic staff responded very positively to this effort and requested for more workshops on technical topics such as laboratory instrument repairing.
