Dr. Ranga Dissanayake, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, FAHS, USJ, together with Dr. Prasanga Manthilake, University of Peradeniya developed an ecofriendly, long lasting, organic based sanitizer/disinfectant, which is a timely need during this COVID-19 pandemic. The innovative attribute in this sanitizer is its ‘long lasting nature’ says Dr. Dissanayake which he explains could be used for an array of external surfaces for long lasting disinfection. The product was introduced to the Minister of Environment, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera on 15th December 2020. Dr. Dissanayake won a merit award for this innovation at the recently held ‘Young Innovators Award in Health Sciences’ also hosted by the FAHS.
