Although every year thousands of laboratory animals are sacrificed for the benefit of humans, meritorious events to pay gratitude for those who pay from their lives is rare. Thus, marking a milestone in the field of laboratory animal sciences in Sri Lanka, the first ever almsgiving was held with the blessing of five Buddhist monks on 07 th December 2022, the Uduvap Full Moon Poya Day at the Animal House, Faculty of Medical Sciences, USJ. The event was organized to evoke blessings to laboratory animals used in scientific research. The event was conducted successfully with the contribution of the staff of the animal house, USJ, the members of the Sri Lanka Association for the Laboratory Animal Science and the researchers of the animal house, USJ. Dr. Ureshani Karunarathna, Department of Basic Sciences, FAHS, coordinated the event
with Prof. Sugandhika Suresh, Coordinator, Animal House USJ.
