‘සුව දිවි මග’ – Health Services to the Public by FAHS

The Public Outreach & Social Responsibility Committee of Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (POSRC-FAHS), University of Sri Jayewardenepura in collaboration with the Department of Family Medicine co-organized a health camp on 9 th December 2022 at the
Faculty of Medical Sciences, USJ from 8.30 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. Staff and students of all four programmes (B.Sc. Nursing, B.Pharm, B.Sc. MLS, and B.Sc. Optometry) of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences contributed to the event voluntarily. Many external professionals also contributed their services voluntarily. Two registered hospital pharmacists, two MLS graduates, three medical laboratory technologists, and six graduate optometrists including graduate dispensing optometrists, provided their services to the health camp. All equipment used in checking vision, eyes and eye pressure were also provided free of charge by these generous professionals. Patient consultation/care services including, mental well-being, diabetic foot care, preparation for common medical laboratory tests, guidance on safe usage of medication, and optometry services (ocular health assessments, adult and child eye examinations, colour vision assessments, intraocular pressure measurements, and
binocular vision assessments) were provided to the public who participated. Approximately, 150 were served on that day and the same services are planned to be offered by the project, ‘සුව දිවි මග’ which will be a continuous social service offered by the POSRC-FAHS to the university and the village community. Conducting the health camp facilitated to assess the feasibility of the ‘සුව දිවි මග’ project to be implemented in 2023. A leaflet containing information about ‘සුව දිවි මග’ services was handed over to participants to create awareness. Students voluntarily participated in executing the program successfully and also performed short dramas to educate the public on health and wellbeing.
